We have listed a few simple tips for making a good first-impression at an interview, and hope they will help you prepare for a successful interview.

  • Rehearse your selling points a few times with a family member or friend. This will help you work out needless details and give you confidence enough to avoid rambling.
  • Ensure that your hair is clean, neat, and tidy. Men should tie long hair back.
  • Dress in clothing that is appropriate for where you are applying. If you are applying for an office or business profession, be sure to dress in a suit or nice business attire. Although it's important to dress nicely, it's also important that you are comfortable in your choice of clothing. If you are too uncomfortable, your discomfort may be apparent to your interviewer.
  • Try to arrive at least five to ten minutes early for your interview. Punctuality is very important.
  • Greet with a good handshake and a confident smile.
  • Act politely and use proper language. Inappropriate behavior or "street slang" reflects very negatively.
  • Remain calm while being interviewed. Nervous sweating is certainly not something that you want your interviewer to see.
  • Shake their hand again while leaving the interview, and express interest in either the position or the next interview.
Example: "I would look forward to working here very much, and am looking forward to the next interview."
  • Keep your composure on the way out. Becoming depressed or bragging while leaving your interview can have disastrous effects on their impression of you.
  • Follow-up every couple of days. This gives them a distinct impression that you are committed to getting this position. However, don't contact them incessantly, as this will most likely annoy them and hurt your chances.
